AI: The Mystery - Episode 2
AI: The Mystery - Episode 2
In our last episode, AI reviewed my novel, THERE IS NO MAP FOR THIS There, saying that it is, "An evocative and deeply moving memoir. Birdseye, known for his engaging storytelling, turns inward to reflect on his own life after the passing of his wife."
Neither of which is true. THERE IS NO MAP FOR THIS is not a memoir, it's a novel. And it sure as hell isn't about the passing of my wife. She is, thankfully, very much alive, living life to the fullest. Yay, Debbie!
But AI wasn't done, ergo Episode 2. When prompted again, it insistently claimed that yes, THERE IS NO MAP FOR THIS is indeed a memoir — the author clearly doesn't know what he wrote — and it's a "remarkable" one, "exploring the deeply personal landscape of grief and the winding, often unpredictable path one must tread after unfathomable loss." And that loss? Not the passing of my wife this time, but "the tragic loss of his daughter, Sarah, to suicide."
Look, I do have two daugthers, but neither one of is named Sarah, and they, like my wife, are very much alive. And just so you know, AI — because obviously you are clueless in this regard — suicide is not something to fabricate. It is extremely serious and tragic, and needs society's full resources to combat. Compassion, understanding, love, and counseling are what's called for, not fictionalizing and passing it off as fact.
Wait, maybe that's it. AI doesn't know the difference between fact and fiction. Perhaps AI should change it's name. Instead of standing for "Artificial Intelligence," it should be for "Active Imagination." Something to keep in mind when asking Chat or whatever a question. Vet the answer. Triangulate. Carefully assess for veracity. Then maybe discuss not with a machine, but an actual human. We're flawed, yes, but at least we have hearts.
Mystery solved.
